THE STORY:

He stood by his scheme, and he grinned a sly smile.
“It’s so fun to be mean, all this plotting worthwhile.
Oh Rudolph, so wild, but simply too cool.
And Buddy, a child, so easy to fool.
Little Claus and the elf, too dumb, and too dry.”
He said to himself, with a gleam in his eye.
So he cricked all the cracks, in his green Grinchy hands
And he set to enact his most naughty Grinch plans.

ABOUT THE LOCATION: Lougheed House is Alberta’s most-loved Victorian mansion. Inside its 20 original rooms you’ll find nooks, fireplaces, stained glass windows, turrets, bannisters, stair cases, decorative high ceilings and more. Its extraordinary charisma will charm visitors of all ages.

THE STORY: Being interested in the paranormal, you follow a number of local forums and internet channels dedicated to the topic. Earlier today a cryptic message was posted online which read:

“Threat Level Delta. Assistance required. All able and willing paranormal investigators should meet me at 1503 4th Street SW, tonight. Those fearful should know, your absence will not protect you.”

You saw the message was posted by a Jane Fonda, Paranormal Investigator Level 3. More curious than concerned, and unaware of what Threat Level Delta entails, you decide to gather your friends and join her. Surely something of interest will happen this evening.

NOTE: This is the second run for The Spectres Upstairs as we ran this experience previously in 2018. The 2019 run is being co-produced by The Locked Room and the link below will take you to their escape room theatre page where you can book your tickets.

What’s a theatrical escape game?

We’re calling our Season 3 rooms “theatrical escape games” because they are going to involve a large cast of characters, most of whom you’ll need to interact with during the game to succeed. There will also be certain points in the game where a scene may play out, and you’ll need to pay attention to understand what’s going on. But basically, you’re still solving puzzles, unfurling the mystery and either winning or losing depending on how you do as a team.

What’s a large-scale event?

Large-scale events are events where multiple teams can play separately but simultaneously. Our Halloween event can accommodate up to 10 teams playing at once, and our Christmas event will host up to 9. Every team will have its own table and have its own opportunities to explore different areas and talk to the cast. It’s a lot of fun, and really is the best way to see who’s smarter if you have a group of friends you’d like to compete against.

Will I have my own team or will we be paired up with others?

As a large-scale event (see above), there will be multiple teams playing simultaneously, but each team will playing individually. Don’t worry, with three floors and 15 rooms to explore, this is more like an escape mansion than your typical escape room.

Will there be food and drink?

For our Halloween event, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

For our Christmas event, there will be a cash bar where alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. No food will be served.

Is there food or drink included in the ticket price?

No. But there will be a bar where you can purchase drinks as well as a cookie decorating station set up near your tables. Cookies can be purchased for $1.

What ages can attend?

The Halloween event is intended for those aged 12+
Note: because of the actor interactions involved we will require those aged 12-15 to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.

What should we wear?

It’s a Christmas game and it’s in a mansion. So you can either choose to come out in your favourite holiday sweater, or dress up (business casual or better). It really is a beautiful location.

What are the dates and times?

Dec 26 3:30 and 7:30
Dec 27 5:00 and 8:00
Dec 28 5:00 and 8:00
Dec 29 5:00 and 8:00
Dec 30 5:00 and 8:00

Note: the game will start at the times booked. Doors will open 15 minutes prior. Please show up at least 10 minutes early as you will need to be seated, explained the rules for this particular show, and will likely want to order drinks.

Will these be similar to the theatrical escape games you ran in 2018? Cause we LOVED them!

Aww, shucks. The quick answer is not just similar, these are the same games we are bringing back for a second run, with a few small modifications. We hope to have a new show available for you in 2020.

But…. if you haven’t noticed, our newest traditional escape room titled The Quizzler’s Revenger also opened this summer.
